Obituary​

Guy Chesley “Chess” Steele, age 91 of Calhoun, GA and formerly of Stone Mountain, GA, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021 at AdventHealth Gordon.

Chess was born on April 16, 1929 in Stephens County, GA, son of the late James Laxton Steele and Etta Walters Steele. In addition to his parents, Chess was also preceded in death by: his wife of 73 years, Elsie “Polly” McAllister Steele; three brothers, Bob Steele, Fred Steele, and Joseph Steele; and sister, Louise Shirley. Prior to his retirement, Chess was a Captain for Southern Airways.

Chess is survived by: one son, Stephen C. Steele and his wife Nancy; one daughter, Cindy Steele Tucker and her husband John; five grandchildren, Matthew Steele, John Paul Steele, Adam Steele, Joshua Steele, and Quentin Tucker; and five great-grandchildren, Ches Steele, Wilder Steele, Grady Steele, Jed Steele, and Jasmine Steele.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 1 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Jamey Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 12 PM until the funeral hour at 1 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
