Obituary​

Joseph Hilton Blackmon, age 87, died peacefully at his home in Newnan on April 20, 2026. He was born on June 9, 1938 in Columbus, Georgia to the late John Alfred and Mary Jo Hilton Blackmon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John A. Blackmon.

Hilton attended Darlington School and graduated from Columbus High School. His family lived in Newnan for many years and resided in Pine Mountain, where he was a dedicated volunteer at F.D.R. State Park and a partner in a family-owned book business before returning to Newnan several years ago. Hilton's first job was at Southern Airways at the Columbus Airport. He was subsequently employed by several airlines in management and retired from Delta Airlines in 2002. He was a quiet, kind, and gentle man, much beloved by his family and friends. He was a passionate Atlanta Falcons fan and an avid reader of thriller novels.

He is survived by his wife, Henrietta Moody Blackmon of Newnan; daughter Jennifer (Jonathan) McGrady of Hillsville, VA; and grandchildren Mary Margaret "Molly" McGrady of Washington D.C., Jon R. McGrady of Charlottesville, VA, and Sam T. McGrady of Hillsville, VA.
