Dedicated to Friends, Past and Present
Tommy L. Godwin, age 86, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024. Born October 14, 1938 in Lanett, Alabama, he was the son of the late John E. Godwin, Jr. and Helen Sykes Godwin.
A talented musician and devout Christian, Tommy's life was a testament to his love for God, family, and country and to his unwavering generosity. Tommy proudly served his country in the US Army. He loved his chosen profession as a mechanic and inspector in the airline industry, following in his father's footsteps.
Known for his kind heart and willingness to help others, Tommy cherished every moment spent with family and friends. He loved gospel, ballads, soft country, and Irish music. He loved playing guitar and singing with his sister Susan and his father in their band, The Jubilations. Tommy wrote many of his own songs and often performed at The Catfish Hollow, The Hollonville Opry, and The Joyful Noise, but his greatest joy was singing at church. He never refused requests to sing at special functions for whoever asked, and he took great pleasure in giving away his CDs. Tommy also loved bike riding and motorcycle trips.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; his sister, Susan; his children, Jeff and Marcy; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tommy's legacy of kindness and music will live on in the hearts of all who knew him for his life was full and well lived, and he will be dearly remembered.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Line Creek Baptist Church, 1488 Bob Smith Road, Sharpsburg, GA 30277. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until the start of the service.
